Besed
..is a traditional consorting form in Vepsia, a sort of rural assembly, where every
one might come. There were beseds for all ages and, of course, for young people. A wooden
cabin was hired (anyone arriving was obliged to bring a chop of firewood as a payment). The girls were seated
on benches along the walls and span while the young men made their courtesy. One made merry and played and danced there.
